What we do

From the first question to the released pages.

Request scouting & drafting

Find the right agency, check what's already been released, and write requests that are hard to deflect.

Records analysis

Read the release, flag redactions and gaps, and pull out what matters.

Records research

Connect records to public filings, court documents and open sources.

AI-assisted document review

Search, sort and summarize large releases fast. Every finding is checked by a person.

Response-clock tracking

Track legal deadlines and extensions, and follow up or complain when they slip.

How it works

Three steps.

1

Tell us what you need

Describe the question. We scope it and say what's realistic.

2

We file and follow

We draft and submit the requests, then track every deadline.

3

You get answers

The records, plus a plain-language summary of what they show.

Who it's for

Anyone who needs government records and lacks the time to chase them.

Journalists

Source documents for stories, filed and tracked while you report.

Researchers

Primary records for academic and policy work.

Advocates

Evidence on how decisions were made and who made them.

Small businesses

Contracts, inspections and regulatory files that affect you.

Richard Shatto
Founder & Lead Researcher

For more than 25 years I've helped management teams build companies: writing business plans and prospectuses, launching brands, and running marketing and communications. I've guided several companies through listings on the TSX Venture Exchange and the Canadian Securities Exchange, often serving as a director or senior officer, in retail, consumer products, agriculture, manufacturing and resources.

That work taught me how to read corporate and government paperwork: what a filing is really saying, what it leaves out, and how to get a straight answer from the organization behind it.

I founded PointNexus Access to put that to work on public records, using AI tools to move faster through large releases without cutting corners on accuracy.

Curious and persistent: if the record exists, I'll keep after it.

Richard also writes as Deemed Refusal. Client work stays confidential and is never used in that writing.

PointNexus Access is a federal and BC records-support practice. It is separate from the PointNexus Consulting work (2009–2024) on corporate process and filings.

How we work

  • Requests are filed under the federal Access to Information Act and BC's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).
  • US Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) work is limited to scouting on request: finding the right agency and what's already been released. We don't file US requests.
  • Released records are published or quoted as received.
  • Every claim is checked against the documents.
  • The status of each request is tracked from filing to release.
  • Corrections are made promptly and noted on the summary. To report an error, use the contact form.
